Owner’s Profile

For visitors of the blog mathcyber1997.com, you may have already seen the author name displayed here, namely “Sukardi“. Yes, that is my real name, a name that sounds very vintage in this era. Just call me Ardi so the vintage vibe feels a little less strong, okay?

I was born in Pontianak on July 18, 1997, and I come from Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Your guess is correct if you think the number in the blog name “mathcyber1997” comes from my birth year. I am a mathematics enthusiast who inherited the indifferent personality often associated with mathematicians in romanticized stories: quiet and serious when solving problems. I am one of those people who truly love mathematics. My undergraduate years in the Mathematics Education Program, FKIP, Universitas Tanjungpura officially ended after I graduated on October 30, 2019. I then became a teacher at one of the private schools in Pontianak until 2022. In 2021, I successfully became an LPDP awardee, allowing me to continue my master’s degree in the Mathematics Education Program at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

If someone asks about my hobbies, I would answer, “reading and writing.” I am very sensitive to typos and actively promote proper Indonesian language usage. Some people may also wonder why I use the name “shanedizzysukardy.” Shane Dizzy was an inspirational name that came to me during my high school years. I honestly cannot fully explain the story behind it, but I felt emotionally connected to the name Shane Dizzy, so I combined it into Shane Dizzy Sukardi (or Shane Dizzy Sukardy).

Background

I started becoming interested in mathematics a few months before the Indonesian National Examination (UN) in 2015. At first, I created notes consisting of materials and practice problems written on sheets of paper, which I later organized into a binder for Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics subjects. This was the method I used to prepare for the UN, which at that time was considered “terrifying.” Almost every night, I wrote notes and studied problems from the Detik-Detik preparation book until I eventually fell asleep.

Day by day, I discovered something new in my life when I realized and became convinced that mathematics was my passion. At that time, my life was still filled with uncertainty and dilemmas. Many thoughts kept roaring inside my head. Someone might say, “Loving something that most people hate is quite challenging, isn’t it?”

One of the most memorable moments during that period was the announcement of the 2015 SBMPTN results (now called SNBT), when I was officially accepted as a student in the Mathematics Education Program at FKIP Untan, Class of 2015. Some people regretted the fact that I did not choose a computer-related major because I often won Computer/ICT competitions during high school, especially in programming and blogging. However, I personally believed that this choice could not possibly be wrong because it was God who guided me and opened the way for me. During my university years, I realized that writing materials and problems on papers stored inside binders would not last forever (they could easily get lost, damaged, and also take up a lot of space).

During the second semester of college, I tried to revive my old blog, which I had previously used for school competitions, namely saintpaul50.blogspot.com (the name was inspired by my high school, SMA Santo Paulus Pontianak, during its 50th anniversary celebration), which was later changed into mathcyber1997.blogspot.com. I found many blogs (especially those about mathematics) that provided explanations in an unsystematic and visually untidy manner. This was actually understandable because mathematics is closely related to formulas and symbols that cannot be directly generated by websites, unlike word processors such as Microsoft Word that provide an Equation feature. Because of this issue, I gradually lost motivation and stopped blogging for some time.

As I approached the fifth semester, I was introduced to $\LaTeX$, a programming-like feature specifically designed to help write mathematical symbols and formulas, including on websites. I first used $\LaTeX$ while answering questions on the Brainly platform, and from there, my passion for blogging returned. However, this time I was determined to start a completely new chapter.

With a budget of around 200 thousand rupiahs, I purchased a domain for a new blog (with more complete features), specifically dedicated to presenting mathematical materials, exercises, and other knowledge related to mathematics. That blog became known as “mathcyber1997.com”, a home for me to combine mathematics and computer science into one inseparable unity. This blog has been active since October 2017. Almost every article on this blog includes inspirational quotes from famous figures. This is intended to inspire readers to continue learning and creating, especially to contribute to our beloved country, Indonesia. Never give up, okay?
